Whether with or without football World Cup, this summer will be great! Let’s enjoy life in the garden, on the patio or the balcony and spend some relaxing hours. You may also invite your  friends and family to enjoy the cool summer evenings with you. And hopefully you’ll have a good time with some BBQ or other food from the outdoor kitchen.
And in case your guests bring some drinks, you should be able to chill and present them in a stylish way.

Let’s go for a DIY beverage cooler with our Wave Globe planters!

Before planter, now small beverage cooler

Got a spare planter of the last planting action in the garden, on the terrace or the balcony?
You can easily convert this into a beverage cooler for spontaneous garden parties or any other outdoor event:

And that’s how it works:

  1. Pre-cool drinks in the fridge (preferably overnight)
  2. Get some bags of ice cubes or crushed ice in the supermarket
  3. Decorate pot as you like it (we had a World Cup 2018 party planned!)
  4. Do not forget the bottle opener / corkscrew!
  5. Put the planter/cooler on a side-table or directly on the floor and toast to the great summer weather!

If you have a tall planter, you can also use it as a cooler. This time you do not need a table or a similar storage area, but place the planter, filled with ice and pre-cooled drinks, next to the bench, garden lounger or deck chair.
If you need another drink, you simply grab one or you can comfortably cool your already opened drink in between …

This is what relaxation looks like during the garden party!

DIY: The Beverage Cooler Side Table

You also have a spare wooden board in addition to your high planter? Then you are well prepared for the following clever DIY idea:
A self-made beverage cooler side-table.

You need:

  • A wooden board of 2-3 cm thick
  • Jigsaw and cordless screwdriver
  • A few screws
  • Roller shutter belt or other solid band – suitable for your garden or terrace decoration or for party theme (here it was the Football World Cup 2018)
  • Folding yardstick, pencil, maybe a pair of compasses

With the folding yardstick you measure the inside diameter of your high planter.

Our tip:
Leave a rim of a few centimeters, then you have a small “fall protection” for the drinks you put on the side-table!

You now transfer the diameter measure (possibly with the help of a pair of compasses) to your wooden board and saw off the round disc. Then you fasten the tape with the help of the cordless screwdriver and a few screws in the board. To get the right loop size for the handle, you can measure along your hand.

Now you just fill the planter with ice cubes or crushed ice, store the favorite cold drinks (preferably pre-chilled in the fridge) inside and put the lid back on to keep everything cool.
